Darlene Joy (Ficken) Perkins, 52, of Edmeston went home to her Lord and Savior Monday December 19, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston MA.
She was born February 27, 1959 in Suffern, NY to parents John H. and Mary (Collins) Ficken. Darlene graduated from Indian Hill High School in 1977. She worked at Russ Berrie Company in Oakland, New Jersey for 3 years. She moved to Edmeston, New York in 1980. Darlene was employed at New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 18 years. She currently worked for the Law Office of Timothy R. Johnson in Edmeston, NY since 2000.
Darlene was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Edmeston, NY since 1984, where she held various positions and was involved in many activities over the years. Darlene had a special talent of introducing God to the area’s youth. Her missionary work with children brought many closer to God than they had known before. She was a blessing.
Darlene was known as "Perky" by many of the townspeople in Edmeston. This was a very appropriate name due to her optimistic view of life, her habit of singing and humming all day, and her ready smile. Her middle name, Joy, fit perfectly because she was filled with the Joy of the Lord.
Darlene was predeceased by her mother, Mary C. Ficken, in 1989; her father, John H. Ficken, in 1998; and her brother, John D. ("Doug") Ficken, in 2010.
Darlene is survived by her son, James E. Perkins, and his wife, Abbey Perkins of Cobleskill, NY; brothers Daniel J. Ficken and wife, Maureen, of Santee, CA and Mark E. Ficken and wife, Barbara, of Ringwood, NJ; sister-in-law Elizabeth Ficken of Ortley Beach, NJ; her aunt Mary Ficken of Hackensack, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 28, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Second Baptist Church, Edmeston with Pastor Ray Merritt officiating. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday December 27 from 4:00 –8:00 pm at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
