Alton E. Shillieto died on December 28, 2011 at Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany NY. He was born January 15, 1935 at Burlington NY, the son of George and Myra (Winters) Shillieto. A graduate of Edmeston Central School and Rider University, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957. After completing Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Al was assigned to the First Marine Brigade in Hawaii where he met the love of his life, Lois Evon Elet, and they were married in Hawaii in 1959. After his release from active duty as Captain, the couple moved to Burlington where they operated a sheep farm for many years. Al began work as a Caseworker at the Otsego County Department of Social Services where he was appointed Commissioner of Social Services in 1975. In 1978, he began work for the New York State Department of Social Services until retirement in 1993. His hobbies included Cruising and stamp collecting. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother (Donald). He is survived by his wife and two sons: Thomas (Carin), Hamden CT and John (Terry), Milton NY, as well as two grandchildren Dillon and Eliza.

Burial will be in the Burlington Green Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Al’s memory to the Burlington Green First Baptist Church.

Funeral Arrangements are under the guidance of the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
