Owen Griffiths, 90, formerly of Leonardsville and West Winfield died peacefully March 19, 2012 with his family by his side at the Masonic Home in Utica.
He was born September 12, 1921 in Plainfield Center the son of Owen and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Griffiths. He married Marjorie Snyder in March 1946. She predeceased him in May of 1975.
Owen served in the United Army Tank Corps in WWII. He was a proud member of the Brookfield Legion Post #1492, and a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He retired from New Hartford BOCES where he had been employed in the Transportation Department.
Owen loved his family and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR Racing. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodgate Residence for their devotional care of Owen.
Owen is survived by his children Gary Griffiths (Nancy), Susan Rose (Dennis), Janice Stevens (Bob), Karen Chilson (Donn) and David Griffiths (Becky); 11 grandchildren: Lee Griffiths, Jimmy Kerwin, Tracey Lucas, Kim Piersma, Jennifer Magaro, Ed Stevens, Robert Stevens Jr., Tiffany Stevens, Christina, Michael & Eric Chilson; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday March 22, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston. Calling hours are from 2:00 till 4:00 on Thursday prior to the service with Pastor Jim Fletcher officiating.
Contributions may be made in Owen’s memory to the Masonic Home in Utica.
