Print Dorothy Loret

Edmeston, NY

Dorothy Louise Loret, of Edmeston, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2011.

She was born August 3, 1933, in Dalton, Pennsylvania, youngest of the six children, to parents Henry and Josephine (Miller) Rieder and then later married Frank Loret on November 29, 1951.

Dorothy and Frank stayed close to the Loret families, Vincent and Billie, Peter and Jean while raising their families and the nephews and nieces always enjoyed time spent together. The Rieder nieces & nephews always knew Aunt Dorothy would have a funny story or trick for them. Dorothy held several jobs throughout the years in CT and PA, such as waitress and button factory worker. After joining the Edmeston community in 1962, she found her calling as a residential aide at the Otsego School for Down Syndrome children. She loved and was loved by all of the children she took care of and watched grow up throughout the years. She became part of the extended family of Florence, Charlie and Bobbi, her special card playing and traveling companions. Dorothy was also blessed with her wonderful church family and made many life long close friends that shared many good times and always supported her during difficult times.

As a loving mother of four children, she was always on the run to support them at school functions and sporting events and any other endeavors as they grew. A favorite time was the summer vacations to her family in Pennsylvania, where all had fun as she shared her childhood history, family and friends. Dorothy’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brought special joy to her. They always loved her visits and had such fun when Grandma (Nana) would bring a special gift or just play cards or games and visit with them.

Remember Dorothy with a smile, which is how she would always leave you by sharing one (or two) of her plentiful, funny jokes!

We wish to thank the many people who befriended our mother and showed her what a wonderful community she truly was a part of. From the camaraderie of the Jubilaires to being a part of the voting board crew! Thank you to all the wonderful people that took care of her these past few years, Bassett Hospital staff from aides to Dr.’s and everyone at the Chase Memorial Nursing home and Valley Health Services facilities. We are all grateful for your kindness and caring.

Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings, Caroline Hopkins, Harold & Robert Rieder. Her husband Frank and her son, Steve Loret.

She is survived by her sisters, Marjorie Brauer and Amy Marie McGarry. Her children, Karen and Dr. Larry Marcus of Avon, CT, Patricia Woodward of West Burlington, NY and John and Anne Loret of Delanson, NY; grandchildren, Bradford and Lesley Woodward of Edmeston, NY, Dianna Woodward, Jennifer and Michaela Marcus and Sarah and Kathryn Loret; great grandchildren, Brieann, Isaiah and Logan.
